Store Associate — Part-Time
You’ll be the face of The Open Bottle. That means helping customers find their next favorite beer, pouring pints, crafting cocktails, ringing up orders, stocking shelves, and keeping the floor running. It’s part retail, part taproom — and you’ll need to be comfortable with both.
Part-time positions are typically 8 to 30 hours per week. Nighttime and weekend availability is required. Compensation is $10/hr base plus tips — most of our associates take home between $15 and $24 per hour on a typical shift.
What we’re looking for
• Previous customer service or hospitality experience (retail, bar, restaurant — any of it counts)
• A genuine interest in craft beer — you don’t need to be an expert, but you should want to become one
• Comfort talking to strangers and making recommendations
• Ability to lift kegs, boxes, and other heavy items
• Reliable, on-time, and accountable
• Cocktail knowledge or bartending experience is a plus — but we’re happy to train the right person
• IL BASSET certification preferred — must be completed within 30 days of hire if not already certified
• Cicerone certification preferred — Certified Beer Server exam must be completed within 90 days of hire if not already certified
What you’ll do
• Welcome customers and help them find what they’re looking for
• Make recommendations based on taste, occasion, budget, or whatever they’ve got going on
• Pour and serve beer, craft cocktails, and assist customers with drink selections at the taproom bar
• Check IDs and follow all food and beverage regulations
• Ring up purchases and handle transactions accurately
• Help customers navigate the bottle shop — finding specific products, explaining options, suggesting pairings
• Stay current on what’s in stock, what’s new, and what’s worth talking about
• Keep the floor, coolers, taproom, and bathrooms stocked and tidy
• Swap and tap kegs
• Assist with inventory
• Work alongside your teammates to keep things running smoothly
